We Got Married ‘Sweet Potato’ couple – Seohyun (SNSD) & YongHwa (C.N.Blue)

By the by, for those of you coming to my site to look for GaKwon’s Episodes 1, 2, and 3…you can’t see them anymore because the vids I linked to got pulled from Youtube. However, if you do a bit of searching on Youtube, you’ll stumble across 2OneDay subs video channel (linked here if you’re too lazy to do the actual searching) where you will find a surplus of GaKwon, not to mention other 2AM / 2PM videos (…although I don’t know how many of you will still be supporting 2PM…).

In any case, thought I would talk about the latest addition to We Got Married (which used to be my favourite variety show, until I discovered…well, the rest of the variety shows. Still, I have fond memories of the Lettuce, Ant, AnSol, AlShin etc couples) – the ‘Sweet Potato’ couple i.e. Seohyun from SNSD (or Girls’ Generation) and Jung Yong Hwa from C.N. Blue (of ‘You’re Beautiful’ fame).

They’re a rather quirky addition that I enjoy, mostly because of Seohyun’s absolute naviety and Yonghwa’s (relatively) normality. They’re dubbed the ‘Sweet Potato’ couple in true blue WGM style due to the first episode where Seohyun’s fellow SNSD members tell Seohyun: “If you are satisfied with a husband like him (the unknown person at that point in time), then give us a hint by saying ‘sweet potato’ on screen. If you’re unhappy, then say ‘hamburger’!” and Seohyun does exactly what they tell her by suddenly surprising Yonghwa with the question: “…Do you like sweet potatoes?” (He was all EH?…o.O *blink* how did we get here LOL)

Their meeting was awkward, but cute and realistic. Honestly, of all the people who have appeared on WGM, Seohyun probably resonates the most with me, because she takes a while to warm up to people, which is what I feel most people actually do in real life (and not on reality shows that are scripted). You can see she’s determined to keep an open mind about this because whatever Yonghwa asks her to do, she’s like, “Ah. Yes. Okay.” (In Korean, it’s just “Ne…”) It’s strangely funny because Yonghwa tries REALLY HARD to get her to open up by asking questions, and the whole car scene where they’re on their way to his group’s practice studio is hilarious.

Seohyun: “I have some questions to ask you…[pulls out notebook from what Yonghwa later terms the miracle bag due to the numerous items she has in that bag]”

Yonghwa [can’t quite believe what he’s seeing]: “Eh…Yes, please go ahead.”

Seohyun: “…Who do you respect the most and why?”

Yonghwa [taken aback by the ‘profound-ness’ of her question]: “Eh? …That question’s quite…deep. *thinks very hard* Bon Jovi, because his music is always evolving. What about you?”

Seohyun: “Ah. I respect [the name of a Korean politician – I’m sorry I didn’t catch it, but I presume he’s a really good role model from what she says later]. My motto is that you have to be nice in life because what comes around goes around [or something to that effect – please feel free to correct].”

Yonghwa…blinks. The flabbergasted expression on his face is priceless. Repeated later on in the studio when she goes on about her self-development books (when Yonghwa apparently falls asleep at the sight of a book LOL).

I enjoy their interaction, so far, and it helps that they always show Yonghwa playing “I’m A Loner” (which I have developed a newfound love for) so I always enjoy those bits. Not to mention deciding to call each other “Yooong” and “Hyuuun” in order to become closer was just a genius move because it’s so funny to hear Seohyun go, “Annyounghaeseyo…Yoooong.” (Watch me splutter in laughter here.)

For those of you dying to catch it, the Chinese subtitled ones are here and the English subs are here. (It is at times like this when I thank Singapore for its strict bilingual educational system.) Have fun and let me know what you think of it. I’ve gone through Episode 2, and it’s awesomely funny (in my opinion, although I think I’ve heard people say it’s terribly boring too because they’re so awkward with each other – I thought that was the whole POINT).

  1. Hi raine!
It’s been ages since i last drop a comment here. Sorry that i missed you in Singapore, and nope I didn’t manage to catch Nodame at all. What about you? Yes? No? How was it?

Nway, I noticed from your right pane that you’re listening to CNBlue Bluetory? Yipee!! I’m happy.

About WGM, this is my first time following it and I’m really liking the Sweet Potato couple. But I don’t see anymore further updates at youtube. The latest was ep.4. You have any other resources I can go to?

BTW, I’m currently following Personal Taste. I’m finding ep.1 and 2 rather slow in the story build-up, but i think things a looking up starting witrh ep.3 onwards. I forgot how good Min Ho looks until i saw him here…hehe

Hey Redge! Yeah, pity we didn’t manage to meet up that night – I ended up hanging out with my friend instead. Yes, I did catch Nodame! It was hilarious, as usual, but the ending was rather sad – of course, it’s not finished. There’s still Part 2 to come, so can’t wait for that!

I think the ksubbers for the variety shows are lying low because MBC, SBS and KBS are cracking down hard on fansubs. Fansub channels keep getting shut down on youtube. I have the link for an Episode 5, but unfortunately the subs are in Chinese, which probably isn’t going to help you. (I have no idea if the channel will sub Ep 6 either, or whether the video link will be public because I know they started to make all the video links private since it’s “high risk” to spread these links now).

Yeah, started listening to Bluetory right after I watched WGM, and now I can’t get I’m A Loner out of my head LOL.

Personal Taste isn’t half bad, but my preference right now is Cinderella’s Sister (at least up until Episode 4. This week may change things). Cinderella’s Sister has got EVERYTHING. Brilliant directing, mind-blowing acting, gorgeous cinematography, lovely soundtrack, and very layered and interesting characters. It’s complex, profound, heart-tugging, EVERYTHING you could want in a drama. If you haven’t started – WATCH IT!! šŸ™‚ I don’t recap kdramas because Javabeans already does most of it (Her site is at http://dramabeans.com) and she does a wonderful job – insightful and witty.

I’m still toying with the idea of recapping Code Blue 2, but don’t know if there’ll be much point.

  2. Cinderella’s Sister is in my list alrite!! I’m actually waiting for it to be screened at KBS World (it’ll be very soon now, after Chuno ends). I know I can watch it via streaming, but I think I’ll be patient and watch on tv instead ~ less hassle.

Ooh, PT (Personal Taste) has gotten interesting by ep.5! And ya, I usually get my spoilers for kdrama at dramabeans as well šŸ˜‰ She does very good review!!

I don’t really follow Code Blue2. I guess my favorite Yamapi dramas will be Proposal Daisakusen and Buzzer Beat – I’m a sucker for rom-com / romance genre. Ehehe..

BTW, did you manage to attend to Jang Geun Suk fan session recently?

Haha I can’t be patient and watch Cinderella’s Sister on KBS World cos it’s too slow – the drama’s wayyyy too good! Very angsty, but so layered and complex, it’s working up to be one of my all time favourite dramas (no matter the language!!).

Missed the last couple of episodes last week since I’m in Australia at the moment more’s the pity – I read on DB that PT’s latest episode is super squeal-worthy! Almost Coffee Prince-like (which, if you’ve watched, you’ll know how good that is! …well except maybe the last couple of episodes, which were a bit …???…but yeah, in general the drama’s really good. They should’ve ended it earlier, then it would’ve been like Buzzer Beat…)

No, I didn’t manage to attend the JGS fan session – wanted to, but really couldn’t spare the cash as I just bought myself a new camera for my upcoming trip to Japan…don’t regret the purchase, but ohhhhh, I really do wish I went for the JGS session! It looked SO cute! He even sang to a fan, and posed for a really cute picture with her!

Hello! Sorry I took ages to reply….just came back from Japan a few days ago so have been busy clearing work and then promptly falling asleep after work. I was in Japan for 2 weeks, free and easy with my friends – we went to Osaka, down to Kyushu and then up to Tokyo; visa application went well (it usually does if you have your company letter with you when you apply, and if you can provide a reference who lives in Japan that helps too…I just asked my friend to be my referral LOL). The trip was expensive though…about SGD5k? (I suppose that translates to RM10K++) I’m planning to blog about my trip and gush about all the places I’ve been to. Intending to put up photos too, so watch out for that! I think I have to split the blog entry into 3 parts or I won’t finish talking about all the places I went to. It was a bit of a jam-packed trip LOL. If you want, I can recommend you accommodation as well as attractions to visit, depending on where you intend to go…
